Push to talk "not working" โ€” here's the fix

You're not blind: there is no setting literally named "Push to Talk". Voice defaults to open/toggle transmission, and the binding you want is hiding under a different name.

The fix (as of the crossplay playtest build)

  1. Open Settings โ†’ Controls.
  2. Find "Radio channel On/Off" โ€” this is the voice transmit toggle. Rebind it to a comfortable key and use it as your PTT/mute switch. Community-confirmed in the "PUSH TO TALK" Steam thread ("the name is misleading, but it's there").
  3. Controller: default transmit is LB / left bumper (Xbox layout).
Will a real PTT mode be added? The devs acknowledged the VOIP default complaints during the playtest known-issues follow-up, indicating the current behavior "won't stay like this" โ€” see the official known-issues thread (50+ comments demanding PTT). We re-test the launch build Aug 13 and update this page.

Why it feels broken

The HLL series routes voice by channel (local / unit / command radio), so the binding is named after the radio channel, not "push to talk". If your mic seems always-hot in proximity chat, check the voice activation/toggle mode in Audio settings too โ€” and expect polish here at launch, since it was one of the loudest playtest complaints (17+ separate threads).
